Charlie has been refering to Q-tips as “contips”, not that he uses them and has also been telling me quite a bit what is possible and not possible. He told today “It’s not possible to draw at school because there are no tables.” This also happens to be not true.

He told Colin yesterday that “Dancing is not possible cause I’m watching Sound of Music.” Also, technically not completely true, but I see his point. He and Teddy are really interested in the kids from the Sound of Music.

Charlie is really into saying things are “not fair.” And when I served him lunch today he said “Want to eat cookies. Not fair I have to eat this lunch.”

Today Charlie went to his dentist. He loved it and was so pleased with the entire thing and getting a tooth brush, tooth paste, stickers, and dental floss to take home. He actually wanted to stay and play video games in the waiting room.

The doctor and nurse said he was so great getting his teeth cleaned and didn’t complain at all. So proud. So unlike his mother at the dentist.

Charlie started sleeping in a bed a few weeks ago. The first few nights were great and he went right to sleep. Then he realized he was free and started waking up in the middle of the night, getting dressed, and coming into our room saying “I’m awake. I don’t want to sleep badly.”

Charlie and Teddy LOVED December.

Charlie went to a abbreviated performance of The Nutcracker, called The Mini Nut. He was mesmerized and because he was so in love with the swords and toy horses Drosselmeyer gave as gifts, afterwards every time he was asked what he wanted Santa to bring him he said “A sword, a jersey, and a horse for Teddy.” Charlie will also on occasion walk around humming a butchered version of
Teddy became completely obsessed with a book version of The Nutcracker and demands to have it read each night. He calls the book and nutcrackers, “nuck nuck”.
Carol gave Charlie an actual Nutcracker which he opened on Christmas Eve. He ate dinner with it and took it into his bed with him but then suddenly got worried that it might come to life in his room and somehow attract an army of mice. I assured him that toys in real life do not come to life so he happily went to sleep with it next to him, holding the Nutcracker’s miniature hand.

Over Thanksgiving Charlie “played” his first game of ping pong and in his first football game.

When I took Charlie to the cathedral the other day, he said “Seeing a show!” I said no, just getting something from the gift shop and visiting the garden and he burst into tears and said “Seeing Nutcracker show right now here!!!” I got him a snack and let him run around the Bishop’s Garden and it seemed to make him feel better.

Today Deirdre and Bridget had Charlie and Teddy over to make gingerbread houses with their cousins. Charlie and Teddy could not believe their great fortune to be able to play with Bridget and have unbridled access to bowls of candy.
