I’ve never wanted a camera so much as this morning as I watched MJ ride down street in the sidecar of our friend Alec’s motorcycle, wearing his glasses, a little white helmet, and my purple rain coat.

We had been walking Huck when Alec came by. Huck went crazy watching MJ drive off and the neighbors on the street were laughing.

Kitty Cat Gran babysat the boys this morning and when Charlie decided he wanted to watch a Curious George movie, he walked her thru using the “motes.” He knows how to get what he wants.

Charlie yelled to me from the living room tonight “Teddy walked into my arms!!!!” He was so excited. It was so cute. He gets really excited whenever Teddy walks but this took the cake.

I told Charile and Teddy an abridged version of Gulliver’s Travels as I pushed them home from the park tonight. Charlie said “Tell it again” about twenty times. He really liked the idea of little people with little things. So for dinner I gave him teeny tiny pieces of carrots. He was thrilled.

Charlie and Teddy are gaga for acorns. I mean totally obsessed. We spend a lot of time stopping at various places around the neighborhood so they can pick up acorns. Charlie gets handfuls and Teddy just sits right down in the dirt or on the sidewalk to grab them. As we walk from Charlie’s school to the car he fills his school bag with them.

Charlie keeps saying things like “Oh no, a baby is knocking over my block tower, ” “A baby is trying to take my golf balls.” I think you mean Teddy, Charlie. He isn’t just any baby.

I’m still in NY and miss Teddy and Charlie so much. I can’t wait to get home. I talked to them on the phone last night and Charlie said “Mommy? Where are you? I need you here!” I know I need to be there.

On labor day when MJ and I went to Charlottesville, it was the first time I had been away from the boys for two days and the first time I had been away with MJ alone in 3 years. Wow. It was really relaxing. We stayed at Keswick Hall, did a wine tasting, swam before dinner, had a leisurely dinner, went on a bike ride, wandered around Monticello, wistfully watched college kids tailgate, and enjoyed gorgeous outdoorness. Tomorrow I’m going to NY to interview Kehinde Wiley and I don’t know what I will do without T&C&MJ.

Both boys need a haircut. Maybe by the coincidently named Teddy Charles, “hair shape expert.” Hmm…
