Charlie, like Ethel Merman, really loves a parade,or at least the Edgartown Fourth of July one. It seems like his Uncle Greg feels the same way.

Our flag is high but only has 48 stars (no offense towards Alaska or Hawaii). Hannah and Milly put it up. Michele and I showed them how to take it down (and how to sing Your a Grand Old Flag).

How can an accessory that is supposed to be the essence of cool become so uncool (yet so cute)?

For about the past two months, Charlie has been trying to talk by making this aghhhhaaaaa noise that sounds sort of like a mix between an old belligerent Irishman, a pirate, and a seagull. Yesterday he added a clicking noise. Maybe he’ll be really into bird calls.

Charlie celebrated independence by holding his bottle all by himself, crawling up a stair for the first time, and attempting to wave bye bye. Huck, on the other hand, has no interest in independence and went so far as to follow me into the shower (it was outdoors).

And one more favorite thing…I love when Charlie tries to stand up in his high chair. I know I need to make him sit down for safety sake, but the standing is just so cute.

Today was the best day ever. For real. I got to do my favorite things:
A long walk with Charlie and Huck
Some downward dogs
Pizza at the Chilmark General Store
Riding bikes
Tennis with MJ
Swimming in salt water
Sparklers (and it’s not even the 4th of July yet)
I could not be happier
